How to Install Mods for The Sims 4 (General Guide)
BANK42n's mods follow the standard installation procedure for The Sims 4. Here is the correct way to install them:
1. Enable Mods in Game Settings
Before installing files, you must ensure the game is set to accept them:
- Launch The Sims 4.
- Go to Game Options > Other.
- Ensure the following boxes are checked ✅:
- Enable Custom Content and Mods
- Script Mods Allowed
- Click Apply Changes and Restart the game.
2. Locate the Mods Folder
Your Mods folder is typically located in your Documents directory:
- Windows:
Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods - Mac:
Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods
3. Installation Steps
- Download the mod file (usually a
.zip,.rar, or.7zarchive). - Extract the contents using a tool like WinRAR or 7-Zip.
- Move the extracted files (usually
.packageor.ts4script) into your Mods folder.
[!CAUTION] ⚠️ Critical Rule for Script Mods (
.ts4script) Files ending in.ts4script(like WickedWhims or Core mods) must not be placed deeper than one subfolder. Or read the instructions of the mods you are downloading.
- ✅ Correct:
Mods/WickedWhims/(1 level deep)- ❌ Incorrect:
Mods/MyMods/System/WickedWhims/(Too deep - Game won't see it)
[!WARNING] ⚠️ Windows Path Limitation For Windows users: If your folder names are too long or nested too deeply, the file path may exceed 260 characters.
- Result: The game may crash or fail to load.
- Solution: Keep folder names short and avoid deep nesting.
4. Verify Installation
- Start the game.
- At the Main Menu, a Mods List window should appear (if enabled).
- Enter Live Mode to verify the mod's features are working.
